Learning Mentor
We wish to appoint a Learning Mentor to work across our schools to launch an exciting student scholarship programme funded by The Leathersellers’ Company. The purpose of the scholarship programme is to provide selected students in Key Stage 3 with additional support to enable them to realise their full academic and personal potential. This post is offered on a fixed term contract until August 2024 and will be working with no more than 14 students in the first instance.
As Learning Mentor you will lead on ensuring effective support is in place for the students and provide mentoring support to them whilst they are on the scholarship programme.
The successful candidate will:
- have experience of working with children and young people in an education or youth work setting;
- be an excellent communicator and able to develop a good rapport and working relationship with children, parents and a wide range of adults;
- have a commitment to transforming the lives of young people and their families to overcome the social, cultural and economic barriers to learning;
- be able to work both independently and as part of a team;
- have safeguarding experience;
- be self-motivated, enthusiastic, creative and adaptable;
- be able to problem solve, use their initiative and work autonomously;
- be able to work their hours flexibly, attending meetings and extra-curricular events outside of core hours as necessary.
Salary: Scale 6 (point 18 - 20) £29,554 - £30,618 pro-rata
Hours: 35 hours a week, 39 weeks a year (term time only plus 5 INSET days)
Created in 2008, the Leathersellers’ Federation of Schools educates nearly 3,000 students in Lewisham and comprises Prendergast School, Prendergast Vale School and Prendergast Ladywell School. The group is a hard federation made up of both voluntary aided and foundation schools and, as such, benefit from being more autonomous than other groups. The Federation enjoys a close relationship with The Leathersellers’ Company, which dates back to the 15th Century.
